The story of Gog and Magog is one of the unseen stories mentioned in the Holy Quran and the Sunnah (Prophetic traditions), and it is considered one of the major signs of the Hour (Day of Judgment). Here are the full details of this story:
*Who are Gog and Magog?
1. Who are Gog and Magog?
They are humans descended from Adam, peace be upon him, specifically from the lineage of Japheth, son of Noah. They are distinguished by their vast numbers and complete physical strength. They are a corrupt people who spread corruption on Earth, destroying everything they touch.
2. The Story of Dhul-Qarnayn:
The story begins with a righteous king who traveled the Earth, known as Dhul-Qarnayn. On his journey to a region between two great mountains, he encountered a people who could barely understand him.
*The Request: The people complained to Dhul-Qarnayn about the corruption of Gog and Magog and asked him to build a barrier to deal with them.
*Dhul-Qarnayn's Rejection: He asked them for money and instead asked for their help in building the barrier. He used iron bars (pieces of iron) and placed them between the two mountains, then lit a fire until the iron melted, and poured molten copper over it.
* Result: A massive, extremely solid barrier was formed, which Gog and Magog could neither climb nor breach.
3. Their emergence at the end of time:
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed us that they would try to dig through this barrier every day. When they passed by, he said, "We will return tomorrow," and the barrier would return to its original state by God's will.
* The moment of their emergence: At the end of time, their leader will say, "We will return, God willing." They will return the next day and find it as they left it, in its entirety. They will then emerge upon the people like a raging torrent (swarming from every direction).
4. The essence of their land:
When they emerge, they will drink the entire water of the Sea of Galilee due to their vast numbers, and people will take refuge from them in fortresses and houses. * Their killing: They shoot their arrows towards the sky, and they return stained with blood (a trial from God). They say, "We have conquered the people of the earth, and we have conquered the people of heaven."
* Destruction: At that time, the Prophet Jesus, peace be upon him, and the believers will be besieged. He will pray to God against them. God will send down a calamity upon them, which will erupt around their necks, and they will all die at once.
* Purification of the earth: The earth will be filled with their corpses and their stench. Jesus, peace be upon him, will pray to God, and He will send birds to carry their bodies and drop them wherever God wills. Then He will send rain to cleanse the earth until it becomes like a mirror.
Important facts mentioned in the Quran and Sunnah:
| Details
Location: Behind the barrier built by Dhul-Qarnayn (its location is currently unknown).
Number: Their numbers will far exceed the number of humans.
Time of emergence: After the appearance of the Antichrist and the descent of Jesus, peace be upon him, to confront the Antichrist. "Until, when Gog and Magog are let loose, they will swarm down from every elevated place" (Quran 21:96).
Regarding the descriptions of Gog and Magog found in the Prophetic traditions and hadiths, including their characteristics, their way of life behind the barrier, and detailed descriptions of them:
5. Their physical characteristics (appearance): The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) accurately described Gog and Magog, and their features resemble those of the people of East Asia (the ancient Mongols and Turks):

* Their faces: Broad and flat (like hammered shields).
* Their eyes: Small (slanted or light-colored).
* Their hair: Reddish-brown (with reddish or blackish tinges). Their strength: They possess physical power that no human can match, to the point that God says to Jesus, peace be upon him: "I have sent servants of Mine, and I will not let anyone fight them. So take My servants to Mount Sinai."
6. Their daily life behind the barrier:
They are now, imprisoned behind the barrier built by Dhul-Qarnayn.
Daily work: They spend their entire day in the pit.
The divine exception: The barrier does not disappear because they do not say "God willing." Whenever they dig until they almost reach the sunlight, their leader says, "Go back and dig it again tomorrow," according to God's will and what He has decreed.
The day of conquest: When God permits, He inspires them to say "God willing," and they return the next day to find the pit as they left it, in its reservoir.
7. The Journey of Destruction (From the Sea of Galilee to Jerusalem):
Upon their departure, they will pass by the Sea of Galilee (in Palestine) and drink all its water. When the last of them passes by, he will say, "This was only once!"
* They will not be found on earth like a flood, and the believers will find refuge with Jesus in peace on Mount Sinai.
* They will touch the Prophet Jesus, and from him, the head of an ox (a symbol of simple food) will be more valuable to them than a hundred dinars today.
8. The Details of Their Destruction and the Miracle of Purification:
After they have assumed the name of kings of the earth and heaven, God will send upon them a plague:
* A plague: a worm that emerges from the noses of camels and sheep, infecting their necks, so that they all die "as one soul dies."
* Purification of the Earth: The earth will revolt from the stench of their stench, so God will send birds with necks like those of camels, which will drop their corpses in a place other than the vagina, or wherever God wills. * Blessings after them: God sends rain that washes every house clean, until the earth is like a mirror. Then it is said to the earth, "Bring forth your fruits and restore your blessings," to the point that a single pomegranate will suffice for a group of people, and they will find shade under its peel.
Numerical facts from the Sunnah:
* The proportion on the Day of Judgment: It is mentioned in the authentic hadith (the hadith about the sending of Hellfire) that out of every 1,000 people who enter Hellfire, 999 will be from Gog and Magog, and one from the rest of humanity. This indicates their terrifying number.
* Building the barrier: Dhul-Qarnayn did not use only stone; he used metal smelting technology (iron + molten copper), ensuring there were no gaps or pores that could be climbed.
Is their location mentioned?
Neither the Holy Quran nor the authentic Sunnah specifies a fixed geographical location for them in our time. All claims about their presence under a particular dam, in Siberia, or behind the Great Wall of China are human speculations with no conclusive evidence. This remains among the unseen matters, which we believe will occur, as the truthful and trustworthy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed us.
