The Honest Farmer and the Rain of Mercy
The Honest Farmer and the Rain of Mercy
In a small village surrounded by endless fields, there lived a poor farmer named Hamid. He worked from sunrise to sunset, tilling the soil with his bare hands. His clothes were patched, his sandals worn out, yet his heart overflowed with gratitude to Allah. Hamid believed that every grain that grew was a blessing, and every hardship was a test.
One year, the sky withheld its mercy. No rain fell for months, and the land turned dry like dust. Crops withered, and farmers abandoned their fields in despair. Hamid, however, refused to give up. Every morning, he walked to his barren field, raised his hands, and said:
“O Allah, You are the Sustainer. I plant the seeds, but only You can make them grow.”
People mocked him. “Hamid, stop wasting your time! There is no water, no chance of life,” they said. But Hamid smiled and replied, “The One who brought life from nothing can send rain from the empty sky.”
Despite the drought, Hamid shared whatever little he had. When a hungry traveler knocked on his door, Hamid gave him half of his last loaf of bread. When an orphan needed shoes, Hamid sold his old farming tools to buy them. People wondered, “How can he give when he has nothing?” But Hamid remembered the words of the Prophet (peace be upon him):
“Charity does not decrease wealth.”
One night, after another long day of toil and prayer, Hamid lay under the stars whispering, “O Allah, I trust in You. Send us Your mercy.” Suddenly, dark clouds gathered in the sky. A cool breeze swept across the land, followed by the sound of distant thunder. Rain poured down like silver threads from the heavens, drenching the thirsty earth.
By dawn, the once-dead land bloomed with green. Hamid’s field became the most fertile in the village. His crops grew so abundantly that traders from other towns came to buy from him. Hamid became wealthy, but he never changed. He still woke before dawn, prayed in gratitude, and gave generously to the poor.
Years later, when people asked him, “Hamid, how did you succeed when all others failed?” he replied:
“I never relied on my strength or the soil. I relied only on Allah, the Provider.”
The villagers learned that faith, patience, and charity bring blessings greater than gold. They understood that even in times of hardship, the doors of Allah’s mercy are never closed.
As Hamid grew old, he built a well for travelers and a small madrasa for children to learn the Qur’an. He said, “Let my wealth serve Allah, for that is the true harvest of life.” When he passed away, people remembered him not for his riches, but for his trust in Allah and his generosity that inspired generations.
“And whoever relies upon Allah – then He is sufficient for him.” (Qur’an 65:3)
The story of Hamid teaches us that sincere faith, patience, and giving for Allah’s sake open the doors of unimaginable blessings.
“If you are grateful, I will surely increase you.” (Qur’an 14:7)
