Surah Al‑Baqarah Verses 142 : 145
Surah Al‑Baqarah Verses 142
The foolish among the people will say, "What has turned them away from their qiblah, which they used to face?" Say, “To Allah belongs the east and the west. He guides whom He wills to a straight path.”
Surah Al‑Baqarah Verses 143
And thus We have made you a just community that you will be witnesses over the people and the Messenger will be a witness over you.
And We did not make the qiblah which you used to face except that We might make evident who would follow the Messenger from who would turn back on his heels.
And indeed, it is difficult except for those whom Allah has guided.
And never would Allah have caused you to lose your faith. Indeed Allah is, to the people, Kind and Merciful.
Surah Al‑Baqarah Verses 144
We have certainly seen the turning of your face, [O Muhammad], toward the heaven, and We will surely turn you to a qiblah with which you will be pleased. So turn your face toward al‑Masjid al‑Ḥarām. And wherever you [believers] are, turn your faces toward it [in prayer]. Indeed, those who have been given the Scripture well know that it is the truth from their Lord. And Allah is not unaware of what they do.
Surah Al‑Baqarah Verses 145
And if you brought to those who were given the Scripture every sign, they would not follow your qiblah. Nor will you be a follower of their qiblah. Nor would they be followers of one another’s qiblah. So if you were to follow their desires after what has come to you of knowledge, then indeed you would be among the wrongdoers.
summary of the interpretation Surah Al-Baqarah verse 142 : 145.
The verses talk about moving the Qiblah from Jerusalem to Mecca.
summary of the interpretation of the verses 142
That God Almighty informed His Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, that moving the Qiblah from Jerusalem to Mecca will be met by some people whom God Almighty described as fools, and foolishness means ignorance, stupidity, and rashness.
They are the infidels of Quraysh, the hypocrites and the infidel Jews, that they will receive this with ignorance, foolishness and doubt. Rather,
They doubt the in the matter of Allahand argue by asking them why they deviated from the direction of the Holy House to which they were heading. It was possible for them to refrain from saying it until they disbelieved in the Qur’an. but their ignorance, rashness
And absent minds made them say why they turned away from the Qiblah.from Jerusalem .God's response to the Messenger of God was to tell them that the entire universe belongs to Allah, for Allah belongs the East and the West, and Allah, by His will, guides whomever
He wills to the path that is not crooked, but rather is straight and in it is good and brings him closer to Allah, the pleasure of Allah and His Paradise.
So this shift is a trial, that is, a test from Allah, the Almighty.
And among the people are fools, that is, they do not reason and argue about the matter of Allah, disbelieving in the blessings of Allah and with great insistence on their disbelief
. And among the people are those who obey Allah and carry out His commands without argument, and these are Believers whom God guides with guidance .and assistance, that is, He helps them to obey Him.
These people who believe in God and obey God and are Muslims, that is, they love to submit their affairs to God and to the commands of God, so the nation of submission to God, that is, it is the nation of Islam.
summary of the interpretation of the verses 143
And the nation of Islam, Allah made it a middle nation, meaning that it is located between two extremes: the first extreme, then the middle, then the other extreme. So when Allah, the Almighty, tells us that He will make us a middle nation, meaning that it combines the good of both extremes, religion came to protect people from their desires.
The middle nation is the one that has goodness, justice, and truth, and it is middle in faith and belief. There are those who denied the existence of the true God.
There are those who went too far and enumerated gods.
This one is wrong and that one is wrong.
As for the middle nation of Islam, it came to call for the oneness of Allah, meaning that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner or associate. Islam is a middle religion between atheism and polytheism.
** There are people who go too far in materialism alone and neglect spiritual values.
And people who neglect matter and believe in spiritual values alone
.
The spirit is not better than matter and matter is not better than the spirit, and this is the moderation of Islam. It did not take the spirit alone nor matter alone.
Islam came as a middle ground in which there is a balance between matter and spirit.
The middle nation gave good tidings that the world would return to its rule, and that could not happen unless the testimony of truth
And justice prevailed in it by following the approach of God who set the just balances for the universe and for human life
Because it is the truth and will be the reference for goodness when a battle occurs in the universe, and nothing will decide it except the testimony of this nation.
Then the Messenger will be a witness to the deeds of this nation.
The nation of Islam, did they follow the command of God and the Sunnah of the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, or did they follow their whims and deviate from the approach?
The transfer of the Qiblah from Jerusalem to Mecca was a test and a trial, so God knows who will continue in his faith and following the Messenger of God. And who will reject and turn away from the religion of Islam.
This knowledge is not
knowledge of knowledge, but rather knowledge to be an argument against those who turn on their heels and to be a witness against the people on the Day of Judgment.
The process of trial or testing in changing the Qiblah is a difficult process. Except for the believers who welcome every assignment. Because they know that faith is obedience and do not look at the reason for things.
The enemies of Islam wanted to make the believers doubt their prayers and Qiblah, so they said: If the Qiblah is the Kaaba, then your prayers were lost when you turned towards Jerusalem.
And if the Qiblah is Jerusalem, then your prayers will be lost when you turn towards the Kaaba. This will not happen because the Qiblah of Jerusalem was in its time and the Kaaba will come in its time
. Neither this one was used to this one nor this one was used to this one.
So the response of Allah Almighty was that their faith would not be lost because the prayer in Jerusalem was an obedience to Allah,
And likewise in Mecca it was an obedience to Allah, meaning remember that you believe in a merciful Lord who does not want hardship for you. Merciful, who prevents calamity from you.
summary of the interpretation of the verses 144
Allah the Almighty tells His Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, that he saw his face facing the sky,
So He ordered him to face the direction of prayer that He was pleased with.
He was facing towards.Jerusalem, and in his heart was a feeling that he was facing the Kaaba.
He loved obeying Allah and complying with Allah's command that the direction of prayer be towards.Jerusalem. and he loved the direction of prayer towards the Kaaba.
His heart was inclined towards the Kaaba, as if his feelings, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, were directed to lay the foundation for change, so Allah the Almighty ordered him to face the Sacred Mosque.
The verse of changing the direction of prayer was revealed while they were in the mosque of Bani Salamah in Medina,
So the Muslims faced the Sacred Mosque, and so that no one would think that the change was only in this mosque, the verse was clarifying to the Muslims to face the Kaaba wherever they were.
Those who were given the Scripture know in the Torah that the Messenger who will come will head from Jerusalem and then head to Mecca.
It was expected that this transformation would be a reason for their belief in the message of the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, and not a reason to shake certainty. If the Messenger, may God bless him
And grant him peace, had not headed from Jerusalem to the Kaaba, they would have asked why the Messenger
Of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, did not head as we know from the Torah and the Gospel?
This would have been closer to doubt to them, but what they knew from the Torah came true and he actually headed from Jerusalem to Mecca,
But they are disbelievers who insist on their disbelief, fools who do not reason and deny the blessing. God Almighty reassures the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, that their work will not be lost, and reassures him that their doubt will not advance or delay, for they do not want evidence
Or proof of faith, but rather they want stubbornness.
summary of the interpretation of the verses 145
Allah the Almighty swore that if the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, came with every sign for the People of the Book,
They would not believe in his religion or follow his Qiblah, and likewise the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, is not on their Qiblah, nor are they on the Qiblah of each other, because they do not search for evidence and do not want to be convinced of the validity of the new religion
And if they wanted evidence or conviction, they would have found it in their books that told them about the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and that he is the Seal of the Prophets and gave them his descriptions, so it is as if they have evidence, but they take the matter foolishly and stubbornly, and the dispute over the Qiblah will continue until the Day of Judgment.
When Allah the Almighty addresses His Messenger Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, He knows that Muhammad, the infallible Messenger, does not follow their whims, but what is meant is the nation of Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him
peace. Allah the Almighty informs our Master Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, that whoever follows the whims of the People of the Book and what they distorted, especially after they knew the truth from falsehood, then if he follows their whims, he is among the wrongdoers.
