Verse 154 : 158
of Surat Al-Baqarah
Verse 154
And do not say about those who are killed in the way of Allah, "They are dead." Rather, they are alive, but you perceive [it] not.
Verse 155
And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient,
Verse 156
Who, when disaster strikes them, say, “Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.”
Verse 157
They are those on whom [descend] blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is they who are the [rightly] guided.

Interpretation of verse 154 of Surat Al-Baqarah
Muslims are still facing hardships and violent shocks from the enemies of Islam, and they also need patience, perseverance and supplication to increase the believers’ connection to Allah and to seek protection in Him.
Therefore, the previous verse clarified that Allah Almighty ordered them to be patient and supplicate until they face every event that shakes them, because they have reached the point of threatening their money and their lives, meaning that this violence may reach the point of killing and martyrdom in the way of Allah. Allah wanted to reassure the believers that martyrdom is the highest level of faith that a believer can reach in this world.
Whoever is killed in the way of Allah is alive with his Lord and moves from this world directly to the Hereafter, but you do not feel it, and as long as we do not feel it, it must be a life higher than our worldly life.
They are alive with their Lord, so we must take this life as it is by the power of Allah, and do not try to understand it with your feelings and senses because we will not understand it.
The martyr is killed in the way of Allah and not for any worldly purpose.
Interpretation of verse 155 of Surat Al-Baqarah
Tribulation is not evil, but rather a test and examination from Allah the Almighty
And evil is failing the test that Allah tests us with,
And the Truth,
Glory be to Him, mentioned to us before this verse the peak of affliction; which is that a person attains martyrdom in the way of Allah, and He mentioned the reward of the martyr, which is remaining alive with his Lord, and that was an introduction to the lower affliction, so the peak of affliction, as we understand it, is the loss of the soul, and Allah wanted to give the believers immunity in what is less than the soul, immunity from fear, hunger, and loss of money, souls, and fruits.
The important thing is for the believer to succeed in all these affliction; so that he faces life with steadfastness; and faces life with strength. And all of this requires patience, and Allah gives glad tidings to the patient if they are patient with these afflictions.
The truth is that when He prepares us with this preparation, if we succeed in it, we are given glad tidings, because we have been patient with all these hardships: patience with fear, patience with hunger, patience with little money, patience with little souls, and patience with little fruits.
Interpretation of verse 156 of Surat Al-Baqarah
The believer receives the calamity confident that the reward for it will be commensurate with its pain, meaning that he expects good to come to him from it.
Every believer must evaluate himself in a true way,
Any matter that befalls a person, either he had a hand in it, and in that case it is not right for him to be upset because he is the one who brought the painful matter upon himself, and the believer must think even if he is the cause of this calamity, he should review himself and turn to God and repent for his mistakes so that more calamities do not come, or it is a calamity that he had no hand in, and it happened to him because of someone else, for example, so the believer must search for the reason to find a solution so that the calamities do not become bigger and a test from God, and the believer must be patient with what has befallen him and know that in all cases the believer is a winner and attains good, good either by earning degrees and God’s pleasure or by solving problems that led to this calamity
.
And the believers know that they cannot prevent the occurrence of calamities, so their hearts are reassured that the kingdom belongs to God Almighty, so He does everything that leads to goodness in
His kingdom, because we belong to God and to God we shall return.
Interpretation of verse 157 of Surat Al-Baqarah
These believers are those who are satisfied with all of Allah’s gifts, even the trials and calamities, because they knows that the purpose of life is Allah’s pleasure, mercy, and blessings in the Hereafter
And that reassurance in Allah’s mercy is guidance from Allah to the believers. We all live by Allah’s mercies, even the disbeliever lives on earth by Allah’s mercy, and takes the means of his life by Allah’s mercy, and the blessings and goodness that he lives on come to him because of Allah’s mercy, and the believer takes the blessings of this world by Allah’s mercy, and Allah increases his blessings,
Interpretation of verse 158 of Surat Al-Baqarah
Safa and Marwa are two small mountains.
Our master Abraham, peace be upon him, wanted to leave our lady Hagar, the wife of Abraham, peace be upon him, with her son in this place. She asked him, “Did God command you to do this?”
He said, “Yes.” She said, “God will not let us down
.” Then she put her trust in God and walked between Safa and Marwa looking for water for her son. She went and came back seven times until she reached the point of exhaustion and her attempts ended. She returned to where the newborn was, but she did not find water .
The newborn struck the ground and found water.
The presence of water was not only due to her striving, but the most important reason was the will of God, who made her son strike the ground with his foot in the place of water.
We strive, and God Almighty benefits us with our striving and does not disappoint or waste the hope or effort of the believer.
And I was right when I was
assured that Allah would not disappoint them as long as this is what Allah ordered Abraham, peace be upon him, to leave them in this place.
Then Allah wanted to direct the Muslims in their prayers towards the Sacred House after it was purified, so the House became free of idols and purely for Allah, but there remained on the two mountains of Safa and Marwa two idols called (Isaf and Na’ila), and this is what made the believers shy to circumambulate between Safa and Marwa, but Allah the Most High informed them that Safa and Marwa are among the symbols of Allah, and whoever wants to perform Hajj or Umrah, there is no blame on him for circumambulating between Safa and Marwa because the intention here is to obey Allah the Most High because Safa and Marwa were made by Allah among the symbols of Allah, so he circumambulates between Safa and Marwa, and not between Isaf and Na’ila as the polytheists used to do, so the action here is according to the intention. Hajj and Umrah must be performed with all the rituals of Allah because they are obligatory. If they are repeated, they beco
me voluntary, and this is better.
Then Allah is thanked, and Allah’s thanks to the servant is a gift from Allah that never ends.
