Interpretation of verse 238 :2 40 of Surat Al-Baqarah
verse 238 of Surat Al-Baqarah
in the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Maintain .with care th
[obligatory] prayers . and [in particular] the middle prayer . and stand before Allah, devoutly obedient
Interpretation of verse 238 of Surat Al-Baqarah
The previous .verses have explained . the rulings of Allah Almighty .regarding the waiting period of a divorced woman . and a woman whose husband has died. In this case, the husband . and wife who have separated . and reached the stage of divorce. or the wife whose husband .has died are in a state of sadness . and worry.
Then the verses moved to the legislation of prayer .and Allah Almighty. commanded His servants to maintain it .because it removes worry, distress and sadness.
The verse in which Allah . commanded to maintain prayer came as a mercy to the believers . who were afflicted with sadness . and worry, so that the believer. would turn to the Creator. who prepared for him the reasons for marriage, divorce . and separation; to ask Him to relieve him of worry and sadness.
The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him. and grant him peace, was the first to do that. Whenever he was preoccupied .with something . or was concerned about it, he would stand up. and pray
And Allah Almighty .commanded them to maintain the five daily prayers, that is, do not waste them
. So. that they may taste the sweetness .of prayer with your Lord. Then Allah Almighty singled them .out for the middle prayer.
And that they stand . before Allah in humility .in their prayers.
The middle prayer .of the five is the third prayer that .is preceded by two prayers . and followed by two prayers.
The word middle means the best. Scholars differed in defining .the middle prayer. Some said Fajr, some said Dhuhr, some said Asr, some said Maghrib, and some said Isha. Whether they considered.
the middle prayer to be a legislative prayer, or a number of rak'ahs, or secretly, or aloud, or according to the descent of the angels of the night and day, or according to the calculation .of the first prayer that was imposed, each of these considerations. has a ruling.
As long as the middle prayer can be Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha, it is more appropriate to maintain .all prayers.
Allah concealed .the mention of the middle prayer .so that .every prayer becomes the middle prayer, and this leads to maintaining prayers. He also concealed the Night .of Power so that. people deal with the idea that every day .in the last ten days of Ramadan is the Night of Power.
The intention .is to maintain all prayers . and be humble to Allah Almighty, as it brings them closer to Allah .and removes their sadness. and worries.
verse 239 of Surat Al-Baqarah
in the name of God, the Most
Gracious, the Most Merciful.
And if you fear. [an enemy, then
pray] on foot or riding. But when you are secure, then remember Allah [in prayer], as He has taught you .that which you did not [previously] know
Interpretation .of verse 239
Allah Almighty .has made prayer a mercy .for His servants because it is a connection between Allah .and His servants and it removes worry .and sadness from His servants. It is not right .to abandon prayer because .there is no excuse for abandoning it.
Even if the sick person .is unable to pray standing, he should pray sitting, and if he is unable to sit, he should pray lying down, even if he is forced. to pray with his eyelashes. Therefore, He has prescribed. for us the prayer of fear even in combat .and fear. We should not forget to remember Allah, because we are in dire need of Allah .when facing the enemy.
The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him . and grant him peace, prayed the prayer of fear in the Battle of Dhat al-Riqa’ and divided the prayer into two groups, one standing . in the face of the enemy to guard . and the other praying.
This was done by dividing the Muslims into two groups: a group that prays. with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah. be upon him) in the first rak’ah, then they complete the prayer .
On their own, and another group that comes to follow. the Messenger in the next rak’ah until .the prayer with for the Messenger. (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) ends, and waits for them to finish. their prayer .and greets them,
So the. first group gets the merit of starting .with the Messenger, and the other group gets the merit . of finishing the prayer .with the Messenger (peace and blessings . of Allaah be upon him). If the incident of fear ends and they are reassured, they should remember Allah that He taught you what you did not know.
verse 240 of Surat Al-Baqarah
in the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
And those who are taken in
death among you and leave wives behind - for their wives is a bequest: maintenance. for one year without turning [them] out.
But if they leave [of their own accord], then .there is no blame upon .you for what .they do with themselves . in an acceptable way. And Allah is Exalted in Might . and Wise
Interpretation of verse 240
The verse completes .the ruling on the waiting period .of a wife whose husband has died.
Her waiting period .is four months .and ten days. Then this verse comes with another ruling, which is that if death or its causes .or preliminaries are present .for the husband, he can advise .and recommend that the wife remain. in his house for a full year after his death, as
God Almighty .has left the wife to choose. and there is no harm in what she does. in what is right by implementing. God’s ruling only, which is four months. and ten days, or by implementing her husband’s will .and extending after four months. and ten .days to a period of one year
