A verse 246 from Surat Al-Baqarah,
Have you not considered the assembly of the Children of Israel after [the time of] Moses when they said to a prophet of theirs,
"Send to us a king, and we will fight in the way of Allah "? He said, "Would you perhaps refrain from fighting if fighting was prescribed for you?"
They said, "And why should we not fight in the cause of Allah when we have been driven out from our homes and from our children?"
But when fighting was prescribed for them, they turned away, except for a few of them. And Allah is Knowing of the wrongdoers
Interpretation of Verse 246 : 251 of Surat Al-Baqarah
Interpretation of Verse 246 of Surat Al-Baqarah
These verses narrate a story. mentioned in the Holy Quran, namely the battle of Saul.and Goliath.
They begin with verse. 246 of Surat Al-Baqarah. and continue through. verse 252.
This verse narrates a story mentioned in the Holy Quran that occurred.approximately after the time of Moses and before Jesus, peace be upon him.
The nobles. of the Children of Israel gathered for consultation . and then went to a prophet of theirs whose name is not mentioned . in the Quran, who was a contemporary of theirs at the time.
They said to him, "Send us a king. so that we may fight . in the cause of God." Their prophet said to them, "I fear that God . will impose fighting on you."
They objected and the nobles said, “Our enemy has driven. us out of our homes and our children.”
That is, they were humiliated until they lost their homes and children after their enemy captured them.
What their prophet had predicted and foretold happened .
They actually turned away from. the command to fight, except for a few of them. God Almighty knows who were the wrongdoers and turned away from fighting. Turning away from fighting. is wronging oneself.
They were driven out of their homes and remained in that state.
They wronged themselves, their families, their community, their children who were captured by the enemy, and, above all, they wronged the cause of religion.
A verse 247 from Surat Al-Baqarah,
{ And their prophet said to them, "Indeed, Allah has sent to you Saul as a king.
" They said, "How can he have kingship over us while we are more worthy of kingship than him and he has not been given any measure of wealth?" He said, "Indeed, Allah has chosen him over you and has increased him abundantly in knowledge and stature.
And Allah gives His sovereignty to whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing [in favor] and Knowing." }
Interpretation of Verse 247 of Surat Al-Baqarah
Then their prophet .informed them that God Almighty had chosen for them .taloot as king.
However, most of them .objected, believing that they were more .deserving of it than taloot, because taloot was neither . wealthy nor prominent in society.
They were materialistic, seeking fame. and wealth. If they had been believers, they would not have objected to Saul, because he was God's choice for them.
However, most of them were weak in faith, so most of them objected.
Their prophet's response was logical and convincing, considering the qualifications. that suited the task for which. they wanted him to be king. He increased his knowledge and stature.
Then he informed them that God does whatever .He wills and chooses whomever He wills, and that God is vast in knowledge, because
.He is the One who created humankind .and determines destinies, and in His hand is all things.
They should have accepted .God's selection of Taloot as king with acceptance and contentment, but because most of them were weak in faith, they objected.
A verse 248 from Surat Al-Baqarah,
And their prophet said to them, "Indeed, a sign of his kingship is that the chest will come to you in which. is assurance from your
Lord and a remnant of what the family of Moses and the family of Aaron had left, carried by the angels. Indeed,in that is a sign for you, if you are believers."
Interpretation of Verse 248 of Surat Al-Baqarah
And because God Almighty, the Most Merciful over the worlds, wanted to prove to them.
The right of Taloot to be their king, God sent them evidence, which is that God sent angels carrying a coffin.
This coffin had been lost before, and it was from the time of Moses, peace be upon him, and it contained a remnant of what Moses and the family of Aaron had left behind. God Almighty reassures them that the sign of the kingship of Saul is the coming of the coffin that you are longing for, and to which your sanctities are linked.
The word “in it is tranquility” means in it is tranquility, which is the psychological stability that will come to them when they find the coffin.
There are no signs more amazing than the coming of the coffin to prove the truth of the Prophet that God has sent
Taloot as a king. If they do not believe in this matter, then they must review their faith.
A verse 249 from Surat Al-Baqarah,
{ And when Saul went forth with the soldiers, he said, "Indeed, Allah will be testing you with a river.
So whoever drinks from it is not of me, and whoever does not taste it is indeed of me, excepting one who takes [from it] in the hollow of his hand." But they drank from it, except a [very] few of them.
Then when he had crossed it along with those who believed with him, they said,
“There is no power for us today against Goliath and his soldiers.”
But those who were certain that they would meet Allah said, "How many a small company has overcome a large company by permission of Allah. And Allah is with the patient." }
Interpretation of Verse 249 of Surat Al-Baqarah
After that, Talut took. the soldiers and divided them. into organized groups, each with a specific mission. When he went out to the army's camp,
He explained to them . prophet Their that they would fight in the cause of God, and that God Almighty would test them. God Almighty would test their steadfastness and test them with a river.
God Almighty would prevent them from drinking from it, even though. they were thirsty.
Had they not been thirsty, the river would not have been a test for them.
He prevented them from drinking, except for those who took a small amount of water with their palms.
This was the amount of water that would help them . Their prophet told them, "Whoever drinks, quenches their thirst, and is satisfied from this river is not of me," meaning. that he is leaving the battlefield and has not fought with us.
Whoever prefers himself is not safe from being in God's army.
So they drank from it, except for a small. amount. Then those who did not drink from the river or those who drank a small amount, the amount of water they could, crossed over and passed all the previous tests.
Then they went through another test, which was confronting the enemy. Most of them feared confronting the enemy and turned away. In this way, the number of fighters became very, very small, because whenever they were subjected to a test or trial from God, they were.
They turned away, and their numbers began to dwindle until they reached a very, very small number, unfit for combat. They were fewer. than the number. of enemies they would face, but
Because the small number. was so strong in faith, they would prevail. This is God's wisdom . the believers who deserved victory were the ones who triumphed. because they had strong. faith that they would meet God. They were not afraid, but rather, they were reassured by God that
.He would provide them .with divine strength that would. make them trust in God's victory.
They knew that a small group would overcome a large group, God willing, because they were patient in the face of all the tests and did not withdraw or object to any of the tests they faced, and that God is with the patient.
A verse 250 from Surat Al-Baqarah,
{ And when they went forth to [face] Goliath and his soldiers, they said, "Our Lord, pour upon us patience and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people." }
Interpretation of Verse 250 of Surat Al-Baqarah
When they faced .the enemy, namely Goliath. and his soldiers, they turned to God, asking Him to bestow. patience upon them, strengthen their faith, and grant them victory. over the disbelieving people.
A verse 251 from Surat Al-Baqarah
So they defeated them by permission of Allah, and David killed Goliath, and Allah gave him the kingship and prophethood and taught him from that which He willed.
And if it were not for Allah checking [some] people by means of others, the earth would have been corrupted, but Allah is full of bounty to the worlds.
Interpretation of Verse 251 of Surat Al-Baqarah
God Almighty informs. us that He has granted . victory to the believers.
David, a soldier of the believers, killed Goliath, the leader of the infidel army who fled, so David pursued. and killed him.
God's wisdom decreed that the youngest of the believers should be the one to kill the leader of the polytheist army.
This battle marked the. beginning of David's history, and it brought him great victory.
Then God bestowed upon him kingship. and wisdom, and caused the mountains and birds to repeat and return with him the praise and glorification of God, all as a result of killing Goliath. David loved armor, and his hope was that. God would teach him how to make armor. God made iron. malleable for him. so that he could make whatever he wanted from it.
Truth here brings up a universal issue in existence: war is a social necessity, and truth drives people to fight.
Were it not for the existence. of one force against another, the world would be corrupted. What sustains the universe is .
the existence of equal forces within it one force countered. by another. Indeed, the battle took place; these believers. defeated their enemies, and David was victorious by killing Goliath.
So this is a case. in which God has pushed people against people, and God Almighty. calls it a general case.
