Surah Al-Baqarah Verse 258
Have you not considered the one who argued with Abraham about his Lord [merely] because Allah had given him kingship?
When Abraham said, "My Lord is the one who gives life and causes death," he said, “I give life and cause death.”
Abraham said, “Indeed, Allah brings up the sun from the east, so bring it up from the west.”
So the disbeliever was overwhelmed [by astonishment], and Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.
Surah Al-Baqarah Verse 259
Or [consider] one who passed by a township which had fallen into ruin.
He said, “How will Allah bring this to life after its death?”
So Allah caused him to die for a hundred years; then He revived him.
He said, “How long have you remained [dead]?”
The man said, “I have remained a day or part of a day.”
He said, "Rather, you have remained one hundred years.
Look at your food and your drink; it has not changed with time.
And look at your donkey; and thus We make you a sign for the people.
And look at the bones [of this town] . how We raise them and then We cover them with flesh."
And when it became clear to him, he said, “I know that Allah is over all things competent.”
Surah Al-Baqarah Verse 260
And [mention] when Abraham said, “My Lord, show me how You give life to the dead.”
He said, “Have you not believed?”
He said, “Yes, but [I ask] only that my heart may be satisfied.”
He said, "Take four birds and commit them to yourself. Then [after slaughtering them] put on each hill a portion of them; then call them . they will come [flying] to you in haste.
And know that Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise
Interpretation of Verses 258 to 260 of Surat Al-Baqarah
Verse 258 of Surat Al-Baqarah
The First Story
God Almighty tells His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), through revelation in the Holy Quran, three stories that demonstrate God's power.
The overall purpose of these stories is to reassure and assist the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) in his message, to inform people of God Almighty and His power, to encourage the faith of those in whose hearts there is light, to strengthen the believer in God Almighty in their faith,
Or to learn from them what will bring them closer to God's pleasure and Paradise. The three stories demonstrate God Almighty's power . The first story begins with "Have you not seen?" God Almighty says to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him):
"Have you not seen?" This demonstrates that the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) is hearing a story that happened hundreds of years ago and believing it as if he were actually seeing it, because the one narrating it is God Almighty.
He says to the noble Messenger: "Have you not seen, O Muhammad? A man argued with Abraham concerning his Lord." By asking him, "Who is God?" You will notice here in this verse that the Quran does not mention the name of the person who argued with Abraham about his Lord.
Since the Quran has concealed a name, place, time, or any other piece of information, it is wise to conceal it, as the Quran is precise and only mentions what we learn and benefit from.
Either God conceals it to give people the freedom to think, because the Quran is not merely a transmission of commands and prohibitions, and the implementation of God's commands is by force or coercion. Rather, God gave
His servants the ability to think and reflect, so God sometimes conceals information to give people room to reflect. Therefore, scholars have endeavored to think and say that the one who argued with Abraham was ALNimrod.
However, the story tells of a man to whom God gave a kingdom and authority, but he became arrogant and disbelieving.
He thought he was the god that people should worship. Mentioning the man's name or not does not affect the lesson we learn from the story,
Because, as we have explained and clarified, God's wisdom is in that. This verse is the first of three stories that demonstrate God's power.
The first story is about a man to whom God gave the kingdom
,
But he became so arrogant that he did not acknowledge the oneness of God, but rather thought He was a god.
So Abraham argued with his Lord, that is, he asked and discussed with argument and challenge, and asked about his Lord, that is, he asked who his Lord was. Abraham's response was that my Lord gives life and causes death. Nimrod said,
"I give life and cause death." Abraham asked him, "How do you give life and cause death?" The man replied, "I have the ability to kill my captives, but I have the ability to refrain from killing them.
So whoever I do not kill, it is as if I have given life to him, and whoever I kill, it is as if I have given life." Abraham could have responded and told him,
"But you cannot restore his soul." Because Nimrod's thinking was superficial and weak, Abraham moved on to another reason to curb his thinking and prevent him from responding.
But before I move on to the other reason in the verse, we must know that the following verse is a story that explains to us that God gives life and causes death. It is from God's wisdom that He inspired Abraham not to prolong this argument.
Because the answer to God’s ability to revive the dead will come in the next two verses in detail and precision, because the Quran is precise and brings everything in its proper time
.
Then our master Abraham moved to another reason that curbed his thinking, so he could not respond and the argument ended. Abraham said that God brings the sun from the east, and Abraham asked him to bring the sun from the west
.
When Nimrod heard that, he was astonished, that is, he was surprised at first, then he was confused about how to respond, so Abraham defeated him.
This is not strange, because God granted victory to our master Abraham because God Almighty is the protector of those who believe, and He defeated the disbeliever because the protector of the disbeliever is Satan,
So God does not guide him to proof, evidence, or argument, because God does not guide the oppressors because the highest degree of oppression is the oppression of the disbeliever to himself and to those around him
Interpretation of Verse 259 of Surah Al-Baqarah
The Second Story.
The second verse begins with (or), and God Almighty says: "O Muhammad, did you not know that a righteous man passed by a village and found a dead land? He asked a question of worship, expressing his amazement and admiration at God's power, as if to say: 'Glory be to God!
Who gives life to this land after its death?'" God Almighty wanted to make this story a sign for people to learn how God gives life and causes death, and that by His power and will He gives life and by His power and will He causes death.
So God caused this righteous servant to die for a hundred years, then brought him back to life after his death.
When God brought him back to life, God Almighty asked him: "How long did you die?" He replied: "A day or part of a day." His saying "a day or part of a day" indicates that no signs of aging appeared on him.
Then God Almighty said to him: "Look at your food; it has not spoiled, and look at your donkey; it has spoiled." From here, we understand that by God's power, the righteous servant died. His body did not decay, but rather God revived him, and he remained in his original state.
His food and drink were preserved for a hundred years, but the donkey's meat did decay. God made all of this a sign for humanity
God allowed the righteous servant to see for himself how God arranged the donkey's bones and covered them with flesh.
When the righteous servant saw this, he said, "I know that God has power over all things
Interpretation of Verse 260 of Surat Al-Baqarah
The Third Story
Before I begin my interpretation of this verse, which is the third story narrated by God Almighty to His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) through revelation in the Holy Quran,
we must first understand that our master Abraham was the friend of God, meaning that he was at the peak of his love for God Almighty.
This love is what prompted our master Abraham to ask God Almighty to show him God's ability to resurrect the dead,
So that he could feel God's love for him, answer his prayer, and give him the opportunity to witness God's power and greatness in resurrecting the dead.
When God Almighty asked our master Abraham, "Have you not believed?" This question in this verse is a dialogue between two lovers.
"The meaning is that God is saying to our master
Abraham, 'Do you need proof of My love, Abraham? You are the one I love with a great love.'" Abraham answered to reassure my heart.
He meant that my heart loves seeing your greatness and your ability to raise the dead. Because Abraham was God loved him with a great love, He answered Abraham's question and said to him, "Take four birds and look at the shape of each one,
So you don't think that another bird has come to you, as each bird has a different shape. Then he cut them into pieces, placed a part on each mountain, and called to them, and suddenly the bird was walking. To increase your reassurance,
We brought them from different birds. I cut them into pieces, placed a part on each mountain, and called to the birds, and they came to you." Abraham, as a human, was not capable of knowing how to raise the dead.
But God Almighty granted Abraham the ability to summon the birds, and they came to him. All of this proves that God is Almighty and does not disappoint anyone. God answered Abraham's prayer, not disappointing his beloved, and showed him how God brings the dead back to life. This also demonstrates that God is wise, showing him how
He brings life and causes death. This is God's wisdom to teach people that God is capable of all things.
