The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing.

Interpretation of verse 261 of Surat Al-Baqarah

The following verses, from verse 261 to verse 274, talk about spending in the way of God Almighty, and it includes money and all the provisions that God Almighty provides to man. In these verses, God gives us many examples, as God Almighty gives examples of tangible things 

So that we can understand the meaning of the verses. God gave us an example of spending in the way of God Almighty,

 And God Almighty likened spending in the way of God to the believer planting a grain of wheat, and it grows seven ears, and in each ear there is a hundred grains, meaning that the total grains are seven hundred grains in the seven ears, and God doubles this number if 

He wants to double it. Likewise, the one who spends in the way of God plants goodness in the souls of people and plants affection, mercy, and love among people, because God Almighty has expanded provision. 

He increases the believer’s fruits from what he plants of goodness from what he spends and gives charity with sincerity, and He knows who is sincere in spending and who is not.

 

Verse 262 of Surat Al-Baqarah

Those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah and then do not follow up what they have spent with reminders [of it] or [other] injury will have their reward with their Lord, and there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.

 

Interpretation of Verse 262 of Surat Al-Baqarah

This verse speaks of those who spend their wealth in the way of God without feeling arrogant toward those they have given charity to, or uttering anything that would hurt their feelings. 

God Almighty reassures them that they should neither fear nor grieve, for He is the Guardian of the believers and is pleased with them. He will admit them into His Paradise because they spent in the way of God sincerely and acted according to Islam

Verse 263 of Surah Al-Baqarah

Kind speech and forgiveness are better than charity followed by injury. And Allah is Free of need and Forbearing.

Interpretation of Verse 263 of Surah Al-Baqarah

This verse explains that Islam encourages good speech, especially when giving what God has provided to those in need. 

This provision should be given with kindness, kind words, love, affection, and mercy.

Tolerance among people is better and more pleasing to God than the charity of someone who hurts 

The feelings of the recipient or the needy with hurtful words. God is independent of His servants, and it is humanity that is in need of Him. Spending in the way of God neither increases nor decreases God's power, for He is the Provider and the Rich. The benefit accrues to people, not to God.

 The benefit accrues to the recipient through the provision, and to the giver or donor through God raising their status, attaining His pleasure and Paradise, and winning people's love. God is independent of His servants, Forbearing, and Forbearing. He does not hasten to punish or hold them accountable until they return to God with obedience and love. 

Whoever harms the poor while giving them charity harms himself before harming others, deprives him of God's pleasure and Paradise, and deserves God's punishment in the Hereafter. 

Verse 264 of Surah Al-Baqarah

O you who have believed, do not invalidate your charities with reminders or injury as does one who spends his wealth [only] to be seen by the people and does not believe in Allah and the Last Day. 

His example is like that of a [large] smooth stone upon which is dust and is hit by a downpour that leaves it bare. They are unable [to keep] anything of what they have earned. And Allah does not guide the disbelieving people

Interpretation of Verse 264 of Surah Al-Baqarah

Meanings of the Verse

The word "la tubtil" means “do not benefit from it or gain any good from it.”

The meaning of the word "mann":

A person who spends on the needy makes them feel that he is better than them, which is arrogance and mockery of people.

and the giver feels that he has done him a favor (with) his grace,  and  he enumerates his blessings upon him, saying to him: “Didn’t you remember one day that I gave to you and did you good with this or that?” 

And harm is everything that harms a person through words, actions, or behavior that hurts the feelings of the needy person to whom he gave charity.

The meaning of the word "safwan" is “smooth desert.”

The meaning of the word "sald" is “devoid of everything.”

Completely empty until it becomes smooth.

The meaning of the word "waabil" is “rain.”

The meaning of the word "tal" is "light rain" or “dew.”

 Out of Allah's mercy to His servants, He warns them against the corruption of charity. He does not accept the charity of anyone who gives it with boasting or causing harm, nor does he attain its reward, nor does he attain Allah's pleasure and Paradise.

 The Quran makes it clear to us that those who give charity to the needy, but do not intend thereby to please Allah and be sincere to Him, do not believe in Allah and do not reckon with the Last Day. 

The evidence for this is that they give it with boasting or causing harm, and their goal is to please people, out of hypocrisy and ostentation. Allah likened these people to a rock covered with soil, then water overflows and runs over it until nothing remains. 

Similarly, whoever mishandles his charity will not attain its reward, and Allah will not accept his charity because he has disbelieved in the blessings of Allah Almighty. Allah does not guide the disbelievers

. We ask ourselves, if they are disbelievers who do not believe in Allah or the Last Day, then why do they give charity to the needy? The answer is in the verse itself: because they are hypocrites, and this is the worst kind of disbelief.  

Allah does not reward them for their charity, nor is He pleased with them, nor guides them, because they are disbelievers and wrongdoers, and disbelief is wrongdoing.

 They spend on the needy out of hypocrisy, so that it may be said of them that they are believers and doers of good, when they are not. The proof is that they give charity by showing off and causing harm.

 

Verse 265 of Surat Al-Baqarah

And the example of those who spend their wealth seeking means to the approval of Allah and assuring [reward for] themselves is like a garden on high ground which is hit by a downpour - so it yields its fruits in double. 

And [even] if it is not hit by a downpour, then a drizzle [is sufficient]. And Allah, of what you do, is Seeing.

Interpretation of Verse 265 of Surat Al-Baqarah

The Qur’an has given us examples of those who do not believe in God and the Last Day, and who spend their charity hypocritically, making people think they are believers

 And doers of good, when in fact they are spending it for other than God. In this verse, it gives us examples of those who believe in God and the Last Day, seek God’s pleasure, strengthen their faith, 

And follow His commands. God has given us an example of spending in the way of God, which the believer spends with complete sincerity, love, affection, and mercy, in a manner befitting religion and Islam. 

This is because religion is built on doing good to people and being sincere to God. God likens sincerity in charity to a garden in which plants grow with abundant water, even if it is light or dewy. 

Similarly, the charity of a believer is like planting a charity out of sincerity, love, and kindness to people in giving it, so God increases this goodness even if the charity is small. God is All-Seeing of the deeds of the believer;

 He knows his good intentions and increases his goodness, and He knows those who are ungrateful to Him and does not accept their charity.
