Al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam: The First Sword in Islam

## Who was Al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam?

Al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam was one of the greatest companions of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. He was born in Makkah into a noble family. His father was Al-Awwam ibn Khuwaylid, and his mother was Safiyyah bint Abd al-Muttalib, who was the aunt of the Prophet. This made him the cousin of the Prophet Muhammad.

He is known as the Hawari of the Prophet, which means the disciple or special helper. He was also one of the ten companions who were promised Paradise in this world. He was one of the six members of Shura chosen by Umar ibn Al-Khattab.

## His Early Islam and First Sword

Al-Zubayr accepted Islam when he was only 15 years old. He was among the first eight men to enter Islam. At that time, Muslims were weak and tortured in Makkah.

One day, a rumor spread in Makkah that the Prophet Muhammad was killed. When young Al-Zubayr heard this, he did not hesitate. He took his sword and ran through the streets of Makkah shouting, ready to face all of Quraysh alone to avenge the Prophet. When the Prophet saw him, he made dua for him and for his sword. Because of this event, history remembers him as the first person to draw a sword in the path of Allah.

## His Bravery and Battles

Al-Zubayr participated in all battles with the Prophet. At the Battle of Badr, he was wearing a yellow turban. The Prophet said that the angels descended at Badr in the same form as Al-Zubayr. He fought bravely at Uhud where he protected the Prophet when many Muslims left the battlefield.

At the Battle of the Trench (Al-Khandaq), the Prophet said: "Every Prophet has a Hawari, and my Hawari is Al-Zubayr." At the Battle of Yarmouk against the Romans, his bravery was legendary. He broke through the enemy lines alone and returned wounded but victorious.

He was known for his wealth but he spent it all for Islam. He was extremely generous and left a great legacy.

## Lesson for Young Muslims

His life teaches young Muslims today that courage is not about age, but about faith. A 15-year-old boy changed history with his sincere belief. He was loyal, brave, generous, and steadfast until his martyrdom. May Allah be pleased with him and grant us his company in ParadisHe remains an eternal role model for courage, loyalty, and sincere sacrifice for Allah.image about Al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam: The First Sword in Islam
