It is well-known in devotion and closeness to God Almighty that zakat al-fitr is an obligatory charity, imposed by the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, as a purification for the fasting person from idle talk and obscene speech, and as food for the poor. Her bounty, and they hope with Him, Glory be to Him, for her reward and reward
Accordingly, Zakat al-Fitr was prescribed to purify the person who fasts from sin and disobedience, and to make up for what happened during his fasting from defects.
On the authority of Ibn Abbas, he said: (The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, imposed zakat al-fitr as a purification for the fasting person from idle talk and obscene speech, and as food for the poor).
The first topic: the time and conditions for paying zakat
First Title: When to pay zakat al-fitr
Zakat al-Fitr must be paid at sunset on the night of Eid, the time of Eid al-Fitr and the end of the Ramadan fast, until just before the performance of the Eid al-Fitr prayer.
The jurists of the Maliki school said that it is permissible to pay it two to three days before the Eid, and it is also permissible to pay its value in cash in dirhams to whoever wants it and wants it.
Likewise, a majority of jurists permitted hastening the zakat of Ramadan from the beginning of Ramadan, as is correct according to the Shaafa’is, because it is obligatory for two reasons: by fasting Ramadan and breaking the fast from it.
Second Title: Conditions for paying zakat al-fitr
There are conditions for paying zakat, in the forefront of which is the left. As for the poor and insolvent who did not have anything left over his strength and the food of those who are on his expenses on the night of Eid and on the day of Eid, he is not obliged to pay zakat al-fitr, because he is not able.
And God Almighty has legislated it to purify the fasting person from idle talk and obscenity, and to enrich the poor from asking on the day of Eid, which Muslims rejoice at its advent, as the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, said: (Enable them to circumambulate this day).
The zakat of Ramadan, or zakat al-fitr, is given from Ramadan to the poor and the needy, as well as the rest of the eight types that God Almighty mentioned in the verse on the expenditures of zakat.
God Almighty said: (The alms are only for the poor and the needy, and those employed to collect them, and those whose hearts are to be reconciled, and for the freeing of debtors, and for those in debt, and for the cause of God, and for the wayfarer, ordained by God, and God is All-Knowing, Wise.)
It is permissible for a person to give his zakat al-fitr to one person, and it is also permissible for him to distribute it to more than one person.
